India and Oscars'09!!!

This year’s Oscar nominations have been widely tracked in India. This post is not about the 10 nominations received by the “Slumdog Millionaire”, but about the 11th nomination with Indian connection nominated in the “best documentary short subject” category, “Smile Pinki”.

This is a story about two poverty-stricken young children in the city Varanasi who are born with clefts. She has a opportunity to receive free surgery to fix their condition with the help of a social worker “Pankaj”.

The music for this 39 minute long documentary is composed by Prassana, a guitarist from Madras based in Boston. The music is said to have no trace of western music. Hope the movie wins a Oscar in its category.
