CSK has only managed to win only one out their first five matches in the second edition of the IPL-2009. Their only win has come against the Royal Challengers. They were one of the best teams going into the IPL and were expected to match their last year’s performance. Even though Hayden has fired at top and Murali has come good with the ball, the team has lost three matches. The Dhoni’s magic touch seems to be missing in the entire tournament.
Inspite of having good foreign players such as Murali, Hayden, Oram, Albie Morkel and a few others, the team has not been able to form a winning XI. Probably performing well in IPL is not only about having four good foreign players, but also about having 7 good Indian players in the team. Other than Raina, no one Indian in the team seems to be doing well. Teams in the top of the table have Indians doing well for the team. Balaji and Joginder Sharma can never match the standards of RP Singh and Zaheer Singh. The bating order having Patel and Badrinath always squanders away the all good starts given by Hayden.
With 9 more matches to go, one can not expect much from Dhoni and his men in the tournament. Even though Mumbai won 6 matches on trot after losing a similar number in the start of the tournament last year, but still could not make it to the Semis. Hope of making it to the semis seem to be getting dimmer by the day. All is not over for CSK in the tournament; they still play to salvage the pride of being the finalists last year. As an ardent CSK fan, I hope CSK contracts good Indian players and come good atleast in the next edition of the IPL in 2010.
